A day after her husband passed away in his sleep in Dubai, a pregnant Indian expat, who had filed a repatriation petition to the Supreme Court of India, delivered a baby girl on Tuesday, Khaleej Times has learnt.
Twenty-seven-year-old Athira Geetha Sreedharan, whose husband Nithin Chandran, a mechanical engineer in Dubai, passed away early morning on Monday, June 8, gave birth to the couple’s daughter at approximately 11 am (UAE time), said Hyder Kodanad Thattathazhath, president of Incas Youth Wing.
Nithin was an active member of the Incas Youth Group, where he was the coordinator of blood donation organisation – Blood Donors Kerala.
Cardiac arrest: Nithin’s cause of death
According to the official death notification document issued by the Ministry of Health Preventive Medicine Department, a copy of which Khaleej Times has seen, 28-year-old Nithin died due to a congestive heart failure. The direct cause of death was stated as cardiac arrest, and the leading cause of death was listed as heart failure.
Since his Covid-19 test has returned negative, Chandran’s mortal remains will be repatriated to his hometown in Kozhikode, India on Wednesday, added Thattathazhath. “Now since we have received the death notification, we are looking to get his visa and passport cancelled. We are trying our best to fly him out today (Tuesday). In case we do not get an air ticket, we will fly his mortal remains out tomorrow (Wednesday),” said Thattathazhath.
Advocate Hashik TK, a senior legal consultant who is handling Nithin’s case said, “The embalming of the mortal remains will take place at 3 pm on Tuesday. We will do everything in our power to send him back as soon as possible,” said Hashik.
‘Mother and baby in good health’
Thattathazhath said both mother and baby are in good health. Chandran and his wife Athira Geetha Sreedharan had become the face of Indians stranded in the UAE after she filed a petition in the Indian Supreme Court to return home to Kerala to have the couple’s first child.
The couple had interviewed with Khaleej Times ahead of their departure to Kerala, and decided to deliver their baby in India since he was an employee in the construction sector and was at high risk of exposure. Though Nithin was supposed to fly with his wife to Kerala, he decided to stay back to not waste a seat on the emergency repatriation flights.
