The Ras Al Khaimah Civil Court has ordered a woman from GCC to pay Dh50,500, along with nine per cent interest to her husband, also a GCC citizen, for embezzling Dh70,000 from him.

The wife claimed to have spent the money on hiring a housemaid and paying out traffic fines. However, she failed to prove the same and hence the court rejected her claims and found her guilty.

Earlier, the RAK Public Prosecution slapped her with a fine of Dh2,000 on the same charges and ordered her to pay back the money she admitted to have spent without her husband’s permission.

As per court records, the husband had empowered his wife to receive Dh100,000 in her trust from a consultancy company. However, she claimed to spend Dh70,000 on hiring a domestic helper and paying traffic fines.

The husband filed a lawsuit against her with the RAK Civil Court, seeking full payment of his money, and compensation of additional Dh10,000.

The wife’s defence lawyer told the court that she paid back Dh43,000 to her husband, spent Dh57,000 on hiring a housemaid, paid traffic fines and renewed registration cards.

The court found the wife guilty and ordered her to pay Dh50,500 along with a 9 per cent interest to her husband. However, the court rejected the husband’s compensation request as he did not prove any financial loss as a result of not receiving the Dh100,000 in full.
