51% of UAE residents postpone purchases until discounts

An Amazon survey highlights the growing reliance on online shopping in the UAE, and the impact of economic factors on consumer behavior and preference for deals and offers.

A poll conducted by YouGov showed that Amazon in The UAE46% of the country’s population makes at least 30% of their purchases online, and 28% shop online more than last year. 79% of shoppers look for deals.

The survey revealed that 85% of women look for discounts and offers, compared to 77% of men.

According to the survey, shoppers in the UAE tend to postpone large purchases until they are on sale, such as mobile phones, personal computers and tablets (51%) and consumer electronics (50%).

Nearly a third of people (32%) were willing to pay more than AED 20 per month for a membership that included all of Amazon Prime’s features.

The UAE hosts the annual shopping festival “Prime Day” organized by Amazon From 16 to 21 July.

Ahead of the much-anticipated Prime Day, Stefano Martinelli, Vice President, Amazon In the UAE and Saudi Arabia, in an interview with Arabian Business, he said that this year will witness thousands of offers on all product categories, including electronics, fashion, cosmetics, kitchen and home, Amazon devices and much more.

Shoppers will enjoy huge discounts and free shipping on products from local and international brands, Martinelli added.

Prashant Saran, Chief Operating Officer of Amazon Middle East and North Africa, also noted in the same interview that Amazon teams are intensively preparing for Prime Day 2024, stressing the company’s ability to provide fast and reliable delivery services to meet the increased demand during this major annual event.
