Stranded passengers in the UAE can now rebook their cancelled Air India Express flights from any airport in the country to any destination in India without additional charges, the airline group said on Saturday.

The move comes as the airline deploys extra flights across the Gulf amid ongoing regional disruptions.

The airline said the flexibility applies to travellers with existing bookings whose flights were cancelled due to the evolving situation in West Asia.

For example, a passenger with a cancelled Dubai–Jaipur flight can move their booking to a Ras Al Khaimah–Delhi service at no extra cost, Air India said.

The move comes as Air India and its low-cost subsidiary Air India Express ramp up operations in the region, operating nearly 50 flights across West Asia on March 7 to help repatriate stranded passengers.

In addition, the airline group has scheduled extra non-scheduled commercial flights on March 8 connecting Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah as well as Muscat in Oman with major Indian cities.

The additional services include routes such as Mumbai–Dubai, Delhi–Dubai and Bengaluru–Dubai, along with flights linking Mumbai, Kochi and Delhi with Ras Al Khaimah, Mumbai and Bengaluru with Abu Dhabi, and Mumbai and Bengaluru with Sharjah.

Additional flights are also operating between Mumbai and Delhi and Muscat, which remains one of the corridors assessed as operational amid the regional airspace disruptions.

Air India Express alone operated around 43 flights across the region on March 7, the airline said in a media update.

The airline group said it is proactively contacting affected passengers through the mobile numbers registered with the airline to offer rebooking options.

Travellers can also manage bookings through the Air India Express WhatsApp assistant “Tia”.

Despite the expanded operations, flights to several Gulf destinations, including Bahrain, Dammam, Doha, Kuwait and Riyadh, remain suspended until at least March 10 to March 13, depending on the route.

Air India said passenger safety remains its top priority and advised travellers to check the latest flight status before heading to the airport.
