52-year-old sustained serious head injuries and multiple fractures after falling in the Wadi Shaha area near Jebel Jais
A British hiker was airlifted to hospital on Monday after a 100m fall down a Ras Al Khaimah mountain.
The 52-year-old sustained serious head injuries and multiple fractures after falling in the Wadi Shaha area near Jebel Jais.
Images and a video shared on social media by the National Search and Rescue Centre, showed a helicopter lineman being lowered into the wadi to recover the hiker.
The Instagram post said: “The patient was in an inaccessible location that required a technical rescue. Advanced life support procedures were needed as the patient had sustained serious injuries.”
The man was taken to Saqr hospital in Ras Al Khaimah where he remained in intensive care.
Wadi Shaha is a popular hiking location near to Jebel Jais, the highest point in the UAE. It is also the location of the abandoned former settlement of Shah.
