Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, has approved the design of two new stadiums for Shabab Al Ahli and Al Wasl football clubs. The new grounds will be built in the Al Rawayyah 3 and Al Jaddaf areas, each with a capacity of 20,000.

The project is aimed at meeting the future needs of the two clubs, as well as widening fanbases and nurturing local talent.

The Shabab Al Ahli Stadium will showcase a distinctive circular roof supported by columns representing the moon and outer space, symbolizing harmony and equilibrium. It will incorporate eco-friendly systems and adhere to smart city standards. Meanwhile, the Al Wasl Club Stadium will adopt an innovative ‘city within a city’ design approach, integrating sustainable features that reflect Dubai’s unique urban identity through open spaces integration.

The Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, thanked Sheikh Hamdan for his assistance in developing Dubai’s sports industry. He stressed that the program is in line with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s goals and Sheikh Hamdan’s instructions to foster sporting greatness in Dubai. The dedication of the leadership is demonstrated by their decision to build these stadiums, which aim to improve the sports infrastructure and encourage more community involvement in sporting events.

Mattar Al Tayer, Commissioner-General of Infrastructure, Urban Planning, and Well-Being Pillar, and Vice Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, announced the establishment of a dedicated team comprising officials from various entities to oversee the stadium project. This team’s primary objective is to appoint a specialized construction firm that ensures top-notch quality standards and timely completion of the project.

Overall, the construction of these stadiums not only aims to meet the future needs of premier clubs but also reflects Dubai’s commitment to sports development and infrastructure enhancement, in line with its broader vision for urban planning and community well-being.

Dubai’s advanced sports infrastructure, which includes dedicated cycling and running tracks, and the rise in the number of sports academies and fitness centres, have also played a crucial role in the growth of the sector.
