For the past several days, repeated bomb threats in flights have been giving the police a tough time. So far all these threats have turned out to be fake, but the problem is that they cannot be ignored.

The latest case is of an Air India Express flight going from Dubai to Jaipur. Officials said that due to a bomb threat in the flight, the plane had to make an emergency landing back in Jaipur in the early hours of Saturday. However, the bomb threat later turned out to be a rumour.

After officials were alerted about the bomb threat, an emergency was declared at the Jaipur airport. An official said the flight with 189 passengers landed safely at the airport at 1.20 am. He said the plane was thoroughly checked but nothing suspicious was found.

Repeated threats are turning out to be fake

Most of the threats that have been coming in have been received on social media and all of them have turned out to be rumours. More than 20 flights have received bomb threats this week. This has led to rerouting and rescheduling of flights and has put security forces on edge.

Let us tell you that on Friday, Vistara’s flight from Delhi to London was diverted to Frankfurt after a bomb threat last night. In a statement on Saturday morning, an airline spokesperson said that the flight landed safely at Frankfurt airport and mandatory checks are being done. The flight will continue to its destination after getting clearance from security agencies. Intensifying its investigation into the false bomb threats received on several domestic and international flights, the Delhi Police on Thursday wrote to social media platforms seeking details of accounts posting threatening messages.

‘Posted via VPN or dark web browser’

On Wednesday, the police approached the social media platform to suspend the handles that shared the threatening posts and remove the posts. “It is suspected that the handler used a VPN (virtual private network) or dark web browser to set up an account on X and then posted messages from more than one account. We have written to the social media platform to get the IP addresses,” the officer said.
