Dubai Metro Blue Line to open in 2029

The Roads and Transport Authority announced today, Thursday Dubai Metro Blue Line to start operating Effective September 9, 2029.

According to the media office To the Government of Dubai, The 30-kilometre project strategically connects key areas of the emirate through 14 stations.

Work on the project is scheduled to begin in April 2025, and will be completed in various phases.

The Blue Line extends for a total length of 30 kilo metres, of which 15.5 kilo metres are underground and 14.5 kilo metres are above ground.

14 stations

With its 14 stations, including key interchange points such as Creek Station on the Green Line, Centrepoint Station on the Red Line, Dubai International City 1 Station, along with the iconic station at Dubai Creek Harbour, the Blue Line is set to serve as a pivotal element in the ongoing development of the city’s transport network.

Integration point

The new line is a major integration point between the Red and Green Lines of the Dubai Metro.

The Blue Line will provide direct connectivity between Dubai International Airport and nine key areas along the route, namely Mirdif, Al Warqa, International City 1 and 2, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Academic City, Ras Al Khor Industrial Area, Dubai Creek Harbour and Dubai Festival City.

These details were announced as project contracts were awarded to international companies.

Contracts worth AED 20.5 billion

For this ambitious project, the RTA has awarded contracts worth AED 20.5 billion to a consortium of three prominent Turkish and Chinese companies: MAPA, LIMAK and CRRC.

“It will be one of the best projects to be implemented in the Middle East,” Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, said during a press conference.

Al Tayer pointed out that all measures have been taken to avoid service disruption due to rain and floods.

“We have learned our lessons from some of the unrest around the red line. What happened last year will not happen again,” he added.

Al Tayer revealed that after the floods that swept the city in 14 locations, the Dubai government allocated 1.5 million dirhams to the Dubai Municipality and the Roads and Transport Authority to avoid such a scenario.
