The Covid-19 pandemic is forcing millions of Indians below poverty line.
The death toll from the COVID-19 pandemic has reached around 4,700. Many migrant laborers are forced to leave their work city and going back to their home town as they don’t have job and money left to survive.
The poor and unemployed people have taken the hardest hit, and lack of choices have forced them to accept their misery as their fate.
The irony is still, the urban elite who don’t have to worry about food or money, most of them have remained steady supporters of the lockdown. “If the government lifts lockdown, millions of illiterate people will come back on streets and spread the infection,” a person living in a plush Mumbai apartment said.
