Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud issued a royal order on Sunday to amend the name of Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, to become the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing.
Reasons for changing the name of the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing
He confirmed Saudi Minister of Municipalities and Housing Majed bin Abdullah Al-Haqil, said that changing the name reflects the ongoing commitment to developing an advanced urban environment in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
Al-Haqil added that this measure aims to enhance the overall performance of the ministry and its affiliated municipalities to achieve plans. Sustainable urban development, which aims to improve the quality of life in cities, and develop the housing sector to provide innovative services.
Evolution of the name of the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs
The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs was established by royal decree in 1975 to assume responsibility for urban planning and development of municipal and rural areas, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs was assigned to manage municipal services to maintain a clean and healthy environment.
In 2022, a royal order was issued to merge the Ministry of Housing with the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs, creating the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing.
