Pixar decided to restructure its operations and abandon content production for the Disney Plus platform to focus on film production, after a series of disappointing financial results for some of its recent films.
Pixar, a subsidiary of Disney, announced restructuring measures that include reducing the number of its employees by 14% and stopping content production for the Disney Plus platform.
This process included laying off 175 employees, a lower number than expected earlier this year when the American group announced its intention to cut costs.
Jim Morris, Pixar’s president, explained in an internal email that the goal of this move is to “refocus on film production.”
This decision comes after a series of disappointing financial results for some of the company’s recent films, such as “Lightyear” in 2022 and “Elementary” in 2023, which did not achieve the expected performance at the box office.
Despite the success achieved by Pixar in producing animated series for the Disney Plus platform, such as “Cars on the Road” and “Dug Days,” the company decided to abandon this aspect of its business to focus on Producing films that represent the core of its core business.
Pixar hopes to regain its leading position in the animated film industry through its upcoming films, “Inside Out 2” and “Elio.” With the restructuring of its operations and renewed focus, the company seeks to achieve greater success in the future.
