Saudi Arabia’s car imports reach 160,000 during the years 2022 and 2023

According to the Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadh, the Kingdom is among the 20 largest car importing markets in the world, and accounts for more than half of car sales in the Gulf region.

During the years 2022 and 2023, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia received about 160,000 imported cars through all its land, sea and air customs ports.

Hammoud Al-Harbi, spokesman for the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority in Saudi Arabia, said on Saturday that in 2023 the total number of cars imported into the Kingdom reached about 93,199 cars, and in 2022 the number of cars imported reached about 66,870 cars.

Half of car sales in the Gulf

According to the Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadh, the Kingdom is among the 20 largest car importing markets in the world, and accounts for more than half of car sales in the Gulf region.

Hammoud Al-Harbi explained that the list of countries from which Saudi Arabia imported cars was topped by Japan, then India and South Korea, followed by America and Thailand.

On the other hand, Engineer Wael Al-Dhiyab, the official spokesman for the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization, said that about 60,473 vehicles were subjected to inspection during the year 2023, to ensure their compliance with the highest technical and safety standards.

Energy efficiency certificate

Wael Al-Dhiyab explained that during the year 2023, about 18,150 energy efficiency certificates were submitted for tire products.

The data that Wael Al-Dhiyab spoke about included the Standards Authority granting 172 conformity certificates for electric vehicles last year, an increase of 465% compared to 2022.

The official spokesman for the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization confirmed that 1,505 fuel economy efficiency cards have been issued for new light vehicles.
