On Thursday, Donald Trump signed an order to strip social media players like Twitter of legal immunity for content posted on their platforms in a move which was criticized by people as a legally act of political revenge.

The executive order asks government regulators to check if online platforms should be eligible for liability protection for content posted by millions of their users.

While addressing the reporters, Trump said at the White House “he acted because big tech companies have had unchecked power to censor, edit restrict, hide, shape, and alter any form of communication happening between individual citizens or mass public audiences.”
