Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday that he has ordered 10 foreign ambassadors to be declared Persona non grata.
These include ambassadors of 10 countries including America, France and Germany. These ambassadors demanded the release of a philanthropist in Turkish prison.
Ambassadors demanded the release of a prisoner
According to the information, ambassadors of ten countries including America, France and Germany in Ankara issued a statement earlier this week appealing for the release of businessman and philanthropist Osman Kavala. Usman was imprisoned since 2017 without being convicted in a crime case. Turkish President Erdogan called the ambassador’s statement audacious and said that he has declared the ambassadors as Persona non grata.
Now these ambassadors will have to go from Turkey
The President said at a rally, ‘I instructed my Foreign Minister and said that the issue of declaring these 10 ambassadors as Persona non grata should be taken care of immediately.’ Erdogan said, these people will recognize, know and understand Turkey. If they don’t understand Turkey, they will have to leave here.
What is Persona Non Grata?
The ambassadors who have been expelled by Turkey include diplomats from the Netherlands, Canada, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway and New Zealand. He was summoned to the Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday. Let us tell you that declaring a diplomat as ‘persona non greta’ means that that diplomat has been banned by the host country from staying here.
