Abu Dhabi: In a humanitarian gesture to support Sudanese nationals facing difficult circumstances, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security has announced that Sudanese residents in the UAE who have overstayed their visas can now apply for new visas, renew residency permits, and obtain ID cards — even if their passports are valid for less than six months.
The Authority stated that this exceptional measure aims to help Sudanese nationals regularise their residency status amid the ongoing crisis in Sudan. The decision aligns with the Authority’s powers under UAE entry and residency laws.
This special provision took effect on May 19 and will remain in place until the end of the year. Sudanese residents with accumulated fines can now update their status and apply for new visas or renewals through the Authority’s official digital platforms, regardless of passport expiry dates. The process will be simplified, and all fines will be waived.
The Authority emphasised that the move reflects the UAE leadership’s commitment to supporting Sudanese nationals who, due to the crisis, are unable to renew their passports on time. The initiative has been coordinated with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, the Authority’s key strategic partner.
Earlier, the Authority had announced its decision to waive fines and ease requirements for Sudanese nationals — underscoring the UAE’s concern for those affected by the conflict in Sudan.
This initiative is part of the UAE’s broader humanitarian approach, which prioritises supporting affected communities during times of crisis. It also reflects the nation’s values of tolerance, compassion, and solidarity.
The Authority reiterated that this step contributes to national efforts to ensure social and humanitarian stability for residents, embodying the leadership’s vision of mercy, generosity, and commitment to global humanitarian principles.
