As challenging weather conditions return to the UAE, a yellow alert has been issued for certain areas.
Strong winds, reaching speeds of up to 40kmph, are expected along the east coast. In response, the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) has held a series of strategic meetings with the Joint Weather and Tropical Assessment Team, which includes representatives from the Ministry of Interior, the National Centre of Meteorology, and other key government agencies.
The authority has confirmed the country’s preparedness for the upcoming weather fluctuations and emphasized that all relevant agencies are equipped and ready to implement proactive measures to manage any potential impacts.

What can we expect in the upcoming days?
Dr. Ahmed Habib, a weather specialist at the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), forecasts moderate to heavy rainfall across scattered regions in the coming days, with potential thunder, lightning, and occasional hail. Residents should expect varied intensities of rain, particularly later in the week. The peak of this unsettled weather is anticipated between May 2nd and 3rd, according to Dr. Habib.
Starting from Wednesday evening, the country will experience unstable weather conditions. This includes a mix of cloud types and small convective clouds initiating from the west. By Thursday, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to cover most areas, continuing into Friday.
Which are the areas that received rainfall on Tuesday?
Residents of the UAE, particularly those in the eastern and northern parts of Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, are urged to be extra cautious when going outdoors due to the current weather conditions. Abu Dhabi has seen light to moderate rainfall in areas such as Mshayrif, Al Khatim, Al Shawamekh, and Al Bahyah, while the Al Dhafra region experienced moderate to heavy rainfall. Light rainfall was reported in Ras Al Khaimah, specifically in Shawka – Wadi Al Ejeili and Wadi Tuwa. In Sharjah, the Taraif-Kalba area received rainfall, and in Ajman, the Masfout area saw light rain. Similarly, in Fujairah, the Al Hayl and Wadi Mai areas also experienced light rainfall.
Which are the areas that will be affected?
The Met Department forecasts that the inclement weather will start in the western regions of the UAE by Wednesday night, spreading to most parts of the country by Thursday. The weather focus will be on the western, coastal, and eastern areas. Additionally, temperatures are expected to drop significantly. The weather system will also extend eastward from Abu Dhabi, influenced by local conditions.
What are the factors responsible for unstable weather conditions?
Experts at the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) have indicated that the UAE’s upcoming weather changes are partly due to an extension of surface low pressure from the Red Sea, accompanied by humid south-easterly winds. Dr Ahmed Habib explained that this setup will cause clouds to migrate from Saudi Arabia towards the UAE, triggering unstable weather conditions starting late Wednesday night.
When will the weather improve?
From Friday to Saturday, the low-pressure system is expected to shift southward, leading to an improvement in weather conditions. As a result, cloud cover will decrease, although there remains a possibility of rainfall, which could be heavy in some southern areas. Concurrently, winds will shift from south-easterly to north-easterly and may become strong at times. These conditions will cause the sea to be moderate to rough, particularly during cloudy periods in the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea.
