The motorist fled the scene after hitting a cyclist on the Etihad road.
The Umm Al Quwain Traffic Police arrested a driver who fled the scene after injuring a woman cyclist in a hit-and-run case.
The central operations room of the UAQ Police received information that an unidentified motorist fled the scene after hitting a cyclist on the Etihad road towards Ajman.
Col Saeed Obaid bin Aran, director of Traffic and Patrols Department, UAQ Police, said: “The European woman was riding her bike when a speeding driver hit her and ran the scene without offering help.”
“A traffic patrol was dispatched to the spot where the woman was lying. Her bike was totally damaged.”
The woman, who suffered minor injuries, was rushed to a nearest hospital.
“In just three hours, the UAQ police tracked down the erring driver, who turned out to be a young man in his twenties, and arrested him.”
The traffic police found traces of collision on the car of the motorist.
“The erring driver, identified only as S.H., was referred to the concerned police station for legal action.
“All drivers must observe traffic rules and regulations, always be attentive on the road, and never escape the scene if involved in any accident,” he pointed out.
