The UAE has taken a big step against gender discrimination against women and has started an initiative to end it. A new law has been enacted in the UAE to bring women on par with men. Under this new law, women employees will get equal pay for the same work as men. UAE chief Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has announced this new law.
The legislation to give equal rights to women in the UAE was first approved by the country’s cabinet in 2018. After that, the case has been adjourned for two years. This law is implemented with the consent of the cabinet on 25 September 2020. On this new law, the Ministry of Human Resources says that, “After the enactment of this law, the country’s reputation will increase at the international and regional level due to gender equality.”
Sheikha Manal Bint Mohammed, chairperson of the UAE’s Gender Balance Council, tweeted that, “Congratulations to all the women working in the private sector in the United Arab Emirates.” There is no doubt that this step of the government will promote the social inclusion of women. In 2019, the United Arab Emirates was ranked 26th globally in the United Nations Gender Invitability Index.
