China approves plan to impose Hong Kong security law

The vote encouraged the US and Britain to hold an informal meeting with the United Nations Security Council on Friday to discuss the matter.

On Thursday, China’s parliament approved security law to be imposed on Hong Kong that has intensified tensions of the country with the US. This move has sparked new protests as people fear the city is about to lose its special freedoms.

The rubber-stamp National People’s Congress (NPC) voted and it urged the US and Britain to hold an informal meeting on Friday to discuss the issue with United Nations Security Council.

And it came few hours after Washington decided to withdraw the special status conferred on Hong Kong, stripping of the trading and economic privileges given to the territory.
