222 Saudi establishments fined for breaching virus precautionary measures

Saudi Arabia recorded 193 new cases of coronavirus disease on Tuesday

A total of 222 Saudi establishments have been fined for violating health and safety measures introduced to stop the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
And 22 of the most serious violations were referred to the Ministry of Interior for further investigation.

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) conducted field inspections last week and found a number of establishments ignoring temperature-testing rules for employees and customers, others allowing people to enter premises without face masks, and some not providing sanitizers.

The SFDA has issued a guide spelling out preventive measures and requirements for food outlets, medicinal, cosmetic, and medical appliance facilities in a bid to control the spread of the virus in communities.

Meanwhile, the Saudi Ministry of Health on Tuesday reported 193 new cases of COVID-19, taking the total to 359,115 since the start of the pandemic.

There were 246 new recoveries, meaning 349,414 people in the Kingdom had now recovered after contracting the virus, a recovery rate holding at 97.2 percent.

The Riyadh region had the highest case count at 53, with the Makkah region recording 36 cases, and Madinah 28. The number of active cases in the country fell to 3,712, of which 573 patients were in serious or critical condition.

The Kingdom recorded 12 new virus-related deaths, raising to 5,989 the number of people in the country who had died since March 24 due to complications from COVID-19.

Officials said a total of 44,601 polymerase chain reaction tests had been conducted in the past 24 hours, adding that 10.19 million checks had to date been carried out in the Kingdom.
