Bangladesh banned India’s exports, traders incur huge losses

  • Kolkata. Bangladesh has started harassing traders in India for not being allowed to export their goods. They started retaliating. For the first time, Bangladeshi traders have intercepted goods from India at the Petrapole border. An official of the Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO) has confirmed this.According to the official, goods exported from India to Bangladesh through the Petrapol Border in West Bengal were banned by some exporters on Wednesday. On June 7, India allowed the export of goods from Petrapole to Bangladesh, but did not allow the import of goods from Bangladesh.Fio’s Eastern Region president Sushil Patwari says Bangladesh has stopped importing since Wednesday morning saying that India is not accepting the goods they are sending. He said that there was a constant deadlock at the border.

    An official said Bangladesh exporters were upset because India did not approve import of Bangladesh goods from Petrapole. According to Sajidur Rahman, secretary of the Benapole C&F Agents Staff Association, Bangladeshi exporters are very angry with the Indian stand on Petrapole. They are agitating against this. They have completely stopped imports at the border.

    Traders say that those who import from India also export to India. They said that in such a situation, the goods going for export on the Benapole border are lying, which is likely to cause heavy losses. The protesters blocked the entry of Indian trucks for several hours on Wednesday. He said that the border will remain closed until India allows imports. According to Sushil Patwari, chairman of the Eastern Region of the Federation of Indian Exporters, FIEO, there was no export from India through Petrapole today. He demanded West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to intervene in the case.
