Since the coronavirus pandemic has begun, Bollywood stars and political party leaders have urged Indian citizens to wash their hands properly to protect against covid-19 virus but that is nearly impossible for Bala Devi, a slum-dweller, now facing the scorching summer heatwave.

The 44-year-old lady and her eight family members are among millions of people dealing with months of sizzling hot weather while at home, in lockdown, with no regular access to clean water to drink, keep cool and wash.

Devi said “The weather is so hot the children in the house keep asking for water to drink. You tell me, we don’t have enough water to drink, how can I give them water to wash hands and keep clean?”
