In a bid to combat the spread of coronavirus, several precautionary measures have been put in place in the UAE.

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Tuesday announced 490 new cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus. The ministry also announced 83 recoveries and three deaths.

More than 30,000 coronavirus tests have also been conducted, the ministry added.

After the success of the initial round of the nationwide sterilisation campaign, Dubai on Friday announced an extension of the campaign for another week.

Dr. Farida Al Hosani, the official spokesperson for the UAE health sector, has urged mothers not to delay the vaccination of children during the current situation.

“We are going through exceptional circumstances, but vaccination is very important. Mothers should not delay on the schedule for vaccinating their children. They should vaccinate the children on time to protect their health and safety.”

She said the UAE is keen on providing all the required vaccinations for all members of society, including children and adults, and other vaccinations necessary to prevent various communicable diseases as prevention is better than treatment.

Answering a question on whether the virus can be carried on plastic bags from supermarkets, Al Hosani said sceintific studies show that the virus can live on surfaces for a long time-hours or even days.

To detect cases early and curb the spread of the coronavirus, the UAE has opened 14 drive-through testing facilities that can screen hundreds of people daily without them having any direct contact with healthcare workers.

Meanwhile, UAE has also started clinical trials of plasma therapy for treatment of Covid-19. Their effectiveness is being researched, and the UAE is keen to further look into studies and treatments around the world.

In a bid to combat the spread of coronavirus, several precautionary measures were put in place in the UAE, including the #StayHome initiative, a nationwide sanitisation drive, guidelines for proper hygiene in homes and workplaces, among others.

Among the latest steps taken by the UAE government is that all residency visas, entry permits and Emirates IDs will remain valid until the end of 2020.
