Dubai International Airport sets new record with over 44 million passengers

In a press release today, Dubai International Airport confirmed its position as a major global gateway, as it was able, thanks to its wide and growing network of destinations, to connect Dubai with the most important international markets.

Dubai International Airport witnessed a huge turnout of Travelers during the first half of the year, It received 44.9 million passengers, a significant increase of 8% compared to the same period last year.

Dubai International Airport confirmed in a statement, Today’s journalist, As a major global gateway, Dubai’s extensive and growing network of destinations has enabled it to connect Dubai to key international markets, significantly contributing to the emirate’s position as a global hub for business and tourism.

Figures indicate that Dubai is witnessing strong economic growth, with GDP rising by 3.2% to AED 115 billion in the first quarter of 2024, reflecting the emirate’s growing attractiveness.

Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, expressed his great optimism about the future, stressing that the airport is on track to achieve a new record by receiving 91.8 million passengers by the end of the year.

Key and emerging markets such as India, China and the GCC have contributed significantly to Dubai International’s success, with India maintaining its position as the largest source country for passengers to Dubai, while passenger traffic from China saw a remarkable 80% year-on-year growth, surpassing one million passengers.

Saudi Arabia came in second place after India, recording 3.7 million passengers, confirming the strength of the relationship between the two countries, followed by the United Kingdom and Pakistan with 2.9 million and 2.3 million passengers respectively.

The second quarter of the year saw a huge turnout at Dubai International Airport, receiving 21.8 million passengers, an increase of 7.5% compared to the same period last year, bringing the total flight movements to 107,000. January was the busiest month, with 7.9 million passengers.

Baggage handling at the airport recorded significant growth, with 39.7 million bags delivered, an increase of 6.7%, and a record delivery rate of 92% of bags delivered within 45 minutes.

The airport’s air traffic recorded a remarkable growth, with the number of flights reaching 216,000, an increase of 7.2%, and each aircraft carrying an average of 213 passengers, with the seat occupancy rate remaining stable at 77%. Direct flights accounted for 56% of the total flights.

Travel procedures at the airport were characterised by their speed and smoothness, with 98% of departing passengers waiting less than 10 minutes at passport control, less than 15 minutes for arriving passengers, and 95% of them waiting less than 3 minutes at security checkpoints.
