Editor’s note: Dubai authorities have not yet announced a specific reopening date for malls and other commercial spaces. A set of guidelines has been announced for raising awareness of the public and ensuring the readiness of the retail outlets once such an announcement is eventually made.
When malls and other retail spaces reopen in Dubai, visitors will be allowed to shop for a maximum of three hours, Khaleej Times can reveal.
The document did not specify when the malls and retail spaces would reopen, but asked businesses to be on standby for official announcements that “will be announced shortly”.
According to a list of protocols issued in Dubai on Wednesday, malls and souqs will be operational for 10 hours.
Additionally, all entertainment and tourist attractions like the Dubai Fountain will remain closed to avoid mass gatherings.
No entertainment activities of any kind will be performed so as to ensure that social distancing protocol is followed.
About 75 per cent of mall parking lots will remain closed.
Valet parking will be suspended.
Visitors will be required to wear masks at all times, with provisions to deny entry to those who don’t.
Mall managements must also ensure that a 2-metre social distancing is followed in all common areas, with occupancy capped at 30 per cent.
Dine-in outlets will need to reduce seating arrangements to 30 per cent and
maintain placing seating and tables 6 feet apart for all customers
Stores and and eateries will be required to hang red tags at the front door indicating the maximum
number of allowed customers inside.
