Expat dies in UAE mountains on hiking trip, 2 missing women rescued

An investigation has been initiated into the incident.

A 35-year old expat has died in the UAE while trekking in Khor Fakkan’s mountains, Sharjah Police announced on Monday.

In a statement posted on social media, the Sharjah Police said that it had found three people in Khor Fakkan mountains, who were reported missing on Saturday.

Air rescue teams from National Center for Search and Rescue, Sharjah Civil Defence and Sharjah Police successfully tracked down the lost people that included A 33 year-old woman from Belarus, a 33 year-old woman from Latvia and a 35-year old Arab man.

Unfortunately, the man had died while the two women were moved to a hospital for treatment.

The man’s body was sent to the Center of Forensic Medicine to determine the cause of his death, following a request from the public prosecution.

Colonel Ali Alki Al Hamoudi, Director of the Eastern Region Police Department, said that the three foreigners were tourists, who had been reported missing, and after receiving a report, a search operation for the three started.

A few hours into the operation, the two women were found along with the man’s body. An investigation has been initiated to find out the reasons behind the incident and the Arab man’s death.

The senior official called on the public to stay home in these challenging time and step out for vital and emergency reasons, adding that they always take necessary precautionary measures such as carrying a first aid kit on such trips.
