First person from South Africa to visit Masjid al-Aqsa praying; now Madina Sharif leaves

South African University lecturer Shahid bin Yousef took a walk from Cape Town to Jerusalem to the Al-Aqsa Mosque. He now plans to continue walking on foot to Mecca and Medina, Saudi Arabia.

Shahid left Cape Town on August 15, 2018. Al-Aqsa arrived in the mosque in February, arriving in Al Aqsa in February. He passed through Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt before reaching Gaza.

He attempted to continue his way to Jerusalem via Gaza, but Israel stopped him. After which he moved to Egypt and Sinai and Jordan and from there, he came to Jerusalem.

Because of COVID-19 Maha’mari, he had to stay in al-Aqsa Mosque, which he declared to be Allah’s mercy. He said that he was unable to leave the third holiest place in the world for Muslims.

Shahid said, “Pray to Allah, I have the opportunity to offer namaz at the Al-Aqsa Mosque five times.” He said, “I think it is fortunate for me that five prayers were offered in Al-Aqsa by night.”

The former lecturer at the University of South Africa is planning to write a book under the title My Spirited Struggle, in which he plans to document his journey.

After leaving the Al-Aqsa Mosque, he intends to visit the mosque of Prophet Muhammad in the second most sacred city for Muslims, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and then to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj in Mecca.
