Global smartphone sales declined 20% in Q1 2020

In the first quarter all of the top five smartphone companies recorded a decline.

London: As demand dropped during Covid-19 pandemic, global sale of smartphones has declined 20.2 per cent in the first quarter of this year, a Gartner report said on Monday.

The demand has dropped as customer are not spending money on non-essential items.

All of the top five smartphone companies registered a decline in the first quarter of this year. Except Xiaomi, the only company which managed a magical growth of 1.4 per cent.

Strong sales of Redmi phones and other devices in global markets and strong online channel focus led Xiaomi to report better than expected sales, said the report titled “Market Share: PCs, Mobile Phones and Ultramobiles, All Countries, 1Q20 Update.”
