Dubai: If an unemployed person will get a bag full of cash and gold.
So what will he do? The first thought is that he will keep the ‘treasure’. But it was not so with Ritesh James Gupta, an Indian expatriate, he won everyone’s heart overseas. Click below to watch the video.

Dubai-based banker Gupta returned $ 14,000 (Dh51,492) in cash to his boss, a gold jewelery containing Dh200,000 worth of jewelry and three US passports.

The Dubai Police also did not miss the opportunity to honor such an honest migrant. Brigadier Yousef Abdullah Salim Al Adidi, director of Al Qusais Police Station, honored Gupta by giving him a letter of appreciation. After getting such a huge recognition from Dubai Police, Gupta had no where to go.

Gupta told Gulf News, “There was never a thing in my mind by keeping the bag and could never think of returning it to its owner. Gupta’s gesture is even more important because he received the treasure ‘only a week after leaving the job’. The 37-year-old banker from Kolkata said it was a difficult time for him and he could have kept the bag, considering it a ‘sub’har’, “but I could never live with that decision”.

How did he get the bag

Gupta, who lives in Dubai, along with his wife Aparup Ganguly and his three-year-old son Vivaan Aiden Gupta, were heading towards a saloon in Al Qusais near the metro station at around 10.30 am. When he returned he found the backpack on the bonnet of his car. He was surprised and had no idea what to do with it. He waited for about 30 minutes for someone to come and claim the bag, but none came. They then decided to open the bag to check for any identification or contact details, but were stunned to see what was inside the bag. He said, ‘There were American dollars and lots of gold jewelery. I also received three US passports. He then decided to hand over the bag to the Dubai Police.

Wife response

Gupta decided to go inside the metro station to hand over the bags to the policemen there, but they could not find anyone on duty as it was already late. “I didn’t know how to find the owner of the bag. Then I decided to call my wife because it was getting late and told her the whole story. Instead of getting excited about the treasure, he immediately asked me to go to the police. He said that God was testing us during these difficult times.
