A GCC national stood trial at the Fujairah Misdemeanor Court for allegedly stealing a vehicle.
During the first hearing, the 46-year-old man denied the charge, saying that he was running away from a gang of thieves, who were chasing him and intended to harm him.
To protect himself, he got into the car with its engine running and decided to drive away, the man told the court.
According to police records, the car was found parked at an isolated place. Its owner lodged a complaint with the Fujairah Police. Police said after an intensive search and investigation, the accused was arrested.
The case has been adjourned to next week.
