Meta Ranks AI-Generated Content in 2024

Meta’s platforms will place the tag “Made with AI” on videos, audio and images edited or created using these new technologies.

The new approach focuses on providing users more transparency and context around AI-generated content and similar media. This includes:

  • Tag videos, images and audio created or edited using AI.
  • Focus on high-risk content
  • Relying on self-disclosure by users, as meta platforms will encourage users to voluntarily disclose their AI-generated content.
  • Retention of content on platforms
  • Collaboration with experts and academics

Meta intends to start labeling content generated by artificial intelligence starting next May, and will stop removing content solely based on the manipulated video policy next July.

These steps are intended to allow users time to understand the self-disclosure process before beginning to remove the smaller subset of manipulative media.

The company’s statement said it will continue to work with industry partners to develop common technical standards for defining AI content. It will also collaborate with a network of nearly 100 independent fact-checkers to review false and misleading content generated by artificial intelligence.

It stressed the rejection of any advertisement that contains false content, and demanded that advertisers disclose the creation or modification of an advertisement for a political or social issue in digital form in certain cases.
