National Weather Service warns of heavy rain and bad weather in UAE from today

Dubai: Officials have warned to expect heavy rain and bad weather in the UAE from today. Chance of rain is predicted from Friday, March 8 to Sunday.

Officials said heavy rain, thunder and hail are expected from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. Strong winds can cause reduced visibility on roads. In a separate advisory issued on Thursday, the National Weather Service warned that unstable weather is expected. It has been informed that there is a possibility of wind and rain with thunder and lightning as the low pressure becomes stronger.

Authorities have requested people to avoid unnecessary travel and stay at home as much as possible. The National Disaster Management Committee has also advised people to stay away from waterlogged wadis and other dangerous places. Due to the possibility of hail, vehicles are advised to park in safe places and motorists should exercise caution.

Heavy rain with thunder will start from today. The weather will remain bad till midnight tomorrow. Rain will reach Al Dhafra and Al Ain region first. Later it will spread to Abu Dhabi and after that to Dubai. Do not park in flood prone areas or in foothills or hillsides. Officials also stated that the country is ready to face emergency situations.

It was also decided to impose fines against those doing unsafe work in unstable weather conditions. Bathing in wadis during rains, driving in valleys and being a spectator in dams and floodplains will be considered serious offenses and will attract a fine of up to Dh1,000. Those who venture into waterlogged areas will be fined 2000 dirhams and 23 black points and their vehicle will be impounded for two months.
