Trudeau 'deeply disturbed' by Canada care home conditions

Ottawa: Ontario nursing homes are hard-hit by COVID-19 outbreaks. The condition of care homes is “deeply disturbing,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Tuesday.

Troops of the Canadian military deployed in April to five elderly care homes in the country’s most populous region to make up for the severe staffing shortages.

In a report they said they found nobody was following infection control measures and the condition of the seniors is “horrible”.

Medical charts were not accurate and families were provided wrong information.

Residents in the care homes who tested positive for the virus were allowed to roam freely around their respective care homes, risking life of others.

It was also observed that nurses and support workers were not changing their masks and other protective equipments for many hours as they moved from one patient room to other.

About 80 percent of all COVID-19 deaths in Canada happened in elderly care homes, which went to about 6,700 on Tuesday.
