Syrian-Saudi relations have witnessed a noticeable improvement recently, which was evident in the resumption of direct Hajj flights from Damascus to Jeddah and the appointment of a Saudi ambassador to Damascus.
The first flight from Damascus to Jeddah since 2012 launched at dawn on Tuesday, carrying 270 people to perform Hajj in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia. This trip comes after the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the appointment of the Kingdom as its ambassador to Damascus.
Suleiman Khalil, Director of the Media Office at the Syrian Ministry of Transport, confirmed that this decision is currently limited to the Hajj period only, and no decision has been taken regarding regular operation of Syrian Airlines to Saudi airports.

It is noteworthy that diplomatic relations between the two countries were cut off in 2012, after Saudi Arabia closed its embassy in Damascus in protest against the use of force to suppress popular protests. However, relations have improved in recent years, and visits and meetings between officials of the two countries have returned.
Hatem Kabbas, Director of the Syrian Airlines Corporation, indicated that the Corporation has taken all necessary measures to secure Hajj flights, including preparing a designated lounge to receive passengers at Damascus International Airport.
