Riyadh Air plans to significantly expand its fleet by purchasing more new aircraft. This step aims to enhance air connectivity, attract more tourists and strengthen the company’s position in the regional aviation sector.
The emerging “Riyadh Air” company is accelerating its steps in preparation for its official launch in 2025, by strengthening its fleet with new aircraft purchase orders.
The company, supported by the Saudi Public Investment Fund, announced its intention to purchase more new aircraft in preparation for the start of its operations next year.

This step comes after completing an initial purchase deal with Boeing last year that included 39 Boeing 787-9 aircraft, with options to purchase 33 other aircraft.
Through these huge investments, “Riyadh Air” aims to position itself as a major player in the regional aviation sector, competing with established airlines such as “Emirates Airlines” and “Qatar Airways.”
This ambition is reinforced by the strong support that the company enjoys from the Saudi sovereign wealth fund, which seeks to consolidate the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s position as a major air transport hub.
According to the company’s CEO, Tony Douglas, “Riyadh Air” plans to send new purchase orders that include narrow-body aircraft, with the possibility of placing other large purchase orders in the near future.
Douglas stressed the urgent need for a large fleet to meet the company’s ambitious goals, noting that “Riyadh Air” seeks to provide its services to multiple global destinations.
Despite the challenges facing the global aviation industry, such as aircraft delivery delays by Boeing and Airbus, Douglas expressed full confidence in Riyadh Air’s ability to overcome these obstacles. Pointing out that the company is fully aware of these difficulties, and that it is taking proactive steps to mitigate their impact on its operations.
