Riyadh: The Ministry of Human Resources has stated that the ‘Salary Protection’ service is officially launched to make the process of paying salaries of domestic workers transparent and smooth in Saudi Arabia. According to this, the salaries of domestic workers will be made available through digital wallets and authorized banks through the ‘Musanid’ platform.

The service will be applicable from July 1, 2024 for domestic workers covered under the new contracts. It will be implemented in a phased manner according to the current number of domestic workers. The scheme will be applicable from January 1, 2025 for employers with more than four domestic workers and from July 1, 2025 for employers with three workers. The service will be applicable from October 1, 2025 for those having two workers. All domestic workers are scheduled to be included in the scheme by January 1, 2026, the HRD Ministry said.

This is a continuation of the initiatives implemented by the Ministry of Human Resource and Social Development to develop the domestic labor sector and ensure the rights of the employer and domestic workers. The Ministry aims to facilitate and ensure transparency in the process of payment of salaries. The HRD Ministry said the new service will enhance security and reliability in wage transfer and protect the rights of both parties.

Although the service will be available from April 1, 2022 through Musanid, the national platform for domestic employment services, the scheme will be officially implemented from July 1. It is reported that the project has received good response from customers and stakeholders. There are many advantages for the employer in the service of paying the wages of domestic workers through official channels.

The scheme makes it easy and transparent to verify payment of domestic workers. This enables the employer to speed up procedures related to the employee at the end of the contract or during the employee’s departure. This scheme also protects both the parties in case of dispute between the employee and the employer.
