JEDDAH: The daily number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases continues to decline in the Kingdom with only 159 new infections recorded on Wednesday.
It is the lowest single-day rise in COVID-19 tally since the beginning of the pandemic.
With the new cases, the total number of confirmed cases in the Kingdom has risen to 359,274.
Only four of the Kingdom’s cities reported cases in the double digits. Riyadh recorded the highest number of infections with 20 cases. Sixteen cases were recorded in Jeddah, 11 infections were reported in Yanbu with Madinah following with 10 cases only.
According to the Saudi Health Ministry, the strict measures taken to control the spread of the virus are now paying off as seven out of the total 13 regions of the Kingdom reported cases in single digits.
The decline in infections has also brought down the number of active cases in the Kingdom. The Health Ministry said there are only 3,648 actives cases with 550 in serious condition.
The number of people recovered from the virus has increased to 349,624, including 210 recoveries reported on Wednesday. The Kingdom’s recovery rate has increased to 97.3 percent.
Riyadh led the Kingdom’s cities with the highest recovered patients (29), Makkah came in second with 28, Yanbu with 17, and Madinah with 12 recoveries.
The MOH reported 13 new fatalities, raising the total death toll to 6,002.
Over 10.2 million polymerase chain reaction tests have been conducted in the Kingdom so far with the addition of 41,959 new PCR tests conducted in the last 24 hours.
Saudi authorities are making concerted efforts to fight the pandemic by enforcing social distancing measures and other health precautions.
Since the beginning of the crisis, the MOH has launched a set of applications to provide various health care services in different languages in order to serve the diverse population of the Kingdom.
The Tetamman (rest assured) app allows users to book appointments for the COVID-19 test and enables continued communication and follow up. Tawakkalna shows users’ health status and allowed them to obtain permissions during the lockdown period.

The Tabaud app tracks the spread of COVID-19 infections and allows users to know if they have been in contact with individuals that have tested positive. Lastly, the Sehhaty app provides access to health information and medical e-services offered by various health organizations in the Kingdom.
