1,279 mines removed in 170 hours, bringing the total to 169,434

Saudi King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) removed 1,279 mines, including two antipersonnel mines, 238 anti-tank mines and 1,036 unexploded ordnance planted by Houthi militia in Yemen, during the second week of June, Saudi media said.
This brings the total mines removed since the beginning of the project until now to 169,434 , laid by rogue Houthi militias in Yemen. The mines are hidden in different forms, which killed a large number of children, women and the elderly and left some victims with serious injuries.
KSrelief has extended the contract for landmine-clearance in Yemen for one year at a cost of $30 million.
The project is implemented by Saudi and international experts to remove mines randomly planted by Houthi militias in Yemen, especially in Marib, Aden, Sanaa and Taiz.
Dr Abdullah Al Rabeeah, supervisor general of KSRelief, said the renewal of the contract is part of the center’s humanitarian responsibility to the Yemeni people.
The project is important in clearing landmines made by Houthi militias that target civilians, causing permanent injuries, chronic disabilities and loss of life, he said.
Al Rabeeah said the Saudi mine-clearing work will offer Yemeni people future security.
