Riyadh: An attempt to smuggle drugs into Saudi Arabia under the guise of imported fertilizer for agricultural purposes was stopped. The General Directorate of Narcotics Control said that an attempt to smuggle 25 lakh amphetamine pills through Jeddah port was foiled. Spokesman Major Marwan al-Hazmi said investigators found 2,465,000 pills hidden in bags of imported agricultural fertilizers. In connection with this, five people have been arrested from Makkah, Riyadh and Eastern Province and handed over to public prosecution. One of the suspects is a Syrian national.

Two are Saudi nationals. The other two are illegal immigrants, officials said. The Narcotic Control Directorate conducted the operation in coordination with Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority officials. Security services have appealed to the public to report any information they find about drug smuggling or distribution.
