Saudi poet Prince Badr bin Abdul Mohsen passes away at 75

Riyadh: Amir Badr bin Abdul Muhsin, one of the leading poets known in Saudi Arabia and the Arab world, has passed away. He died in the French capital due to illness. He was 75 years old. The poet Ameer Badr bin Abdul Muhsin bin Abdul Aziz, nicknamed the ‘sculptor of words’, was born in Riyadh on April 2, 1949.

Amir Badr bin Abdul Muhsin is a poet known in Saudi Arabia and the Arab world as one of the most prominent figures of modern poetry. He is a person who has put a lot of effort into writing high-quality literary texts, integrating the social and political realities of Saudi Arabia and the Arab world between love, pride and sympathy. Amir Badr grew up in a home of science and literature as his father loved science and literature.

He is also a creative poet and has a large library of many books. His father’s audience was full of scholars, writers and leading thinkers of the time. It deeply influenced Amir Badr’s love for literature and poetry. He received his primary education in Saudi Arabia and Egypt. After studying in secondary school in Riyadh, he continued his studies in Britain and America. In 1973, he was appointed as the president of the Saudi Society for Culture and Arts.

He was appointed as the president of Saudi poetry association. In 2019, King Salman honored Amir Badr by wearing King Abdul Aziz Shawl. In 2019, the General Entertainment Authority organized a special program titled ‘The Night of Prince Badr Bin Abdul Muhsin: Half a Century and the Full Moon’.

In March 2021, the Literature, Publishing and Translation Authority announced its intention to collect and print the complete literary works of Amir Badr bin Abdul Muhs, in recognition of his contributions to the Saudi creative movement over five decades. Amir Badr was felicitated at the conclusion of the 28th session of the Qurain Cultural Festival in Kuwait in March 2023.
