Sharjah: Sharjah City Municipality has started allowing non-Muslims to cook and sell food during the day during Ramadan. These permits apply to establishments in commercial centres, cafes, pastry shops and bakeries.
Health Control and Safety Department Director Jamal Al Masmi said that the municipality allows food to be displayed outside restaurants under clean conditions. Food handling conditions must be followed. Food should be served in stainless steel containers. Or the food must be displayed in a 100cm, non-reducing airtight glass box and fitted with a sliding or hinged door. Cover with aluminum foil or transparent food-grade plastic. Food should be kept at an appropriate temperature.

Permits can be applied for at Nasiriya Centre, Permit Centre, Number One Centre, Municipality Center 24, Speed and Accuracy Centre, Guidance Centre, Khalidiya Centre, Happiness Centre, Information Centre, Branch 3.
Earlier, Sharjah Municipality had announced that special permission is required to sell food and sell Iftar dishes during Ramadan. This rule also applies to restaurants operating in malls and shopping centers. A fee of Dh3,000 will be charged for permission to prepare and sell food during the day. A fee of AED 500 is payable for permission to display the dishes before the evening Iftar.
