Chairman of Etihad Rail, on Wednesday witnessed the announcement of the connection of the main track of the UAE’s national rail network to a future passenger station in Sharjah. The Sharjah passenger station will be strategically located near Sharjah University City, providing convenient access to key facilities, landmarks, and population centres in the Emirate of Sharjah and the UAE. This will significantly reduce travel distances between passenger stations within the network.

Etihad Rail, the developer and operator of the UAE’s national rail network, will expand its passenger train services and connect the country’s cities and the residential areas through a safe, reliable, and efficient network.

On his part, Sheikh Theyab Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed stated, “The company has successfully developed and operated the national railway network, demonstrating our expertise and commitment to improving passenger train services, the first of which is connecting the main track of the network to the passenger station in the Emirate of Sharjah.

This will strategically enhance interconnection between population communities in the UAE and ease passenger movement between stations within the network. Sharjah is a vital centre that links Dubai and the other northern emirates of the country, making this development a key milestone in our efforts to improve transportation infrastructure.”

Connecting the main railway network to the passenger station in Sharjah will significantly increase passenger traffic, especially among university students from across the UAE, Sheikh Theyab added.

He continued, “This will result in a substantial rise in the number of passengers on board the Etihad Rail, estimated at 14,000 per day on weekdays.”

The UAE is confidently developing a 900-kilometre national railway network that will provide unparalleled passenger transport services in the future. Connecting 11 cities and regions within the UAE, from Sila to Fujairah, including Ruwais, Al Marafa, Fujairah, Sharjah, Al Dhaid, Abu Dhabi and Dubai, this railway network is being developed in accordance with the highest international standards.
