The Crown Prince of Dubai forms a Supreme Committee for Emergency and Disaster Management

In a step towards strengthening the Emirate of Dubai’s preparations to confront emergency conditions and natural disasters, he issued a decision to form a supreme committee for managing emergencies, crises and disasters in the emirate.

The decision included the appointment of the main members of the committee, as its members will include the head of the State Security Service in Dubai, the Secretary-General of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Dubai, the Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, the Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, the Vice-Chairman of the Supreme Council of Energy, and the Director-General of the General Administration.

Dubai Civil Defence, Director General Dubai Health Authority, Director General Dubai Municipality, Director General Department of Economy and Tourism in the Emirate of Dubai, and Director General Media Office of the Government of Dubai.

The UAE had recently witnessed severe weather storms that caused exceptionally heavy rains, leading to flooding of roads and residential areas and disruption of traffic. This prompted the government to take proactive measures to manage emergencies and confront potential crises efficiently.

The day that witnessed the largest amounts of rain in the modern history of the Emirates was described as “historic,” as the amounts of rainfall during the past 24 hours recorded record numbers, the largest since the beginning of recording climate data in the year 1949.

According to UAE Marine Meteorology, the amount of rain that fell in just 15 minutes amounted to more than 30 mm, while the amount of rain in some areas reached more than 259 mm.
