The second warship completed in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh: The second warship completed in Saudi Arabia was launched. Defense Minister Khalid Bin Salmana was represented by Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Fayyad Bin Hamid Al Ruwaili who inaugurated the ship at the King Faisal Naval Base in Jeddah. Named ‘The King Unaisa’, the ship is the fifth to be built under the ‘Sarwat’ project.

After the inauguration, the Chief of Staff along with his fellow officers boarded the ship’s flight deck. The Saudi flag was hoisted to mark the ship’s entry into official Navy service. The ship’s radars and whistles started working. Nearby ships blew whistles to welcome the new ship. The Chief of Staff visited various parts of the ship and saw the modern and high-tech equipment it contained.

Royal Saudi Naval Force Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Fahd bin Abdullah Al Gufaili said that this ship is of the type ‘Corvette Avant 2200’. The ship will be instrumental in enhancing the military strength of the Navy, strengthening maritime security in the region and safeguarding the vital and strategic interests of the country. ‘Sarwat’ is a plan to build five warships and make them part of a single fleet. This ship is the last of its kind and the second to be built entirely in Saudi Arabia.

Earlier, under this project, the four ships that were built abroad and built in Saudi Arabia are King Hail, King Jubail, King Daraiya and King Jeesan. The ships under the Sarwat fleet are considered to be the most modern in the world. It has high capacity and efficiency. Algufaili said that they have the ability to deal with any kind of combat missions. Minister of State for Defense for Executive Affairs Dr. Khalid bin Hussain Albiari, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Spanish ‘Navanti’ Company Ricardo Garcia Bagiro and senior officers from the military and civilian fields were present. All the ships in the Sarwat project, which began six years ago at the behest of the Saudi Crown Prince, were built by these two companies.
