The UAE blocks 1,117 websites that violate intellectual property rights

The UAE ranks first regionally and in the Arab world and 32nd globally in the Global Innovation Index

The UAE Ministry of Economy blocked 1,117 websites that violate intellectual property rights and infringe the rights to publish creative content, including protecting the intellectual property rights of a group of the most prominent platforms that broadcast entertainment materials digitally, in cooperation with the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority – (TADRA), as announced by Dr. Abdul Rahman. Hassan Al-Muaini, Assistant Undersecretary for the Intellectual Property Sector at the Ministry of Economy today.

Al-Muaini stated that the blocking operations “contributed to reducing the violation of copyright of creative works, raising awareness of the mechanisms for protecting intellectual property rights and confronting any violations in easier and faster ways.”

He stressed that the UAE aims to reach the top 15 global positions in the “Global Innovation Index” by the year 2031. Al-Muaini pointed out that the UAE’s current ranking: It is the first regionally and Arab, and 32nd globally within the index.

Al-Muaini revealed that the Ministry launched the “InstaBlock” initiative, to respond immediately to reports of intellectual property rights violations in the Emirates.

He pointed out that the Ministry “aims, by introducing these procedures, to provide a safe environment from violations for owners of exclusive rights, and to raise awareness of the necessity of accessing creative works through copyright-holding platforms, and not through unknown and unsafe platforms.” “It succeeded in protecting the intellectual property rights of a group of the most prominent platforms that broadcast entertainment, sports and artistic materials.”
