From culinary festivals to Jeniffer Lopez, summer in Armenia offers a range of options

Dubai: After an uncertain start to the holiday season, influenced by Israel’s attack on Iran, Armenia is now actively promoting itself as a major cultural destination this summer.

The highly popular destination, especially amongst UAE travellers, suffered a setback following a high volume of flight cancellations amid the conflict.

However, following the resumption of normal operations after the 12-day war, Armenia has not only put together an exciting line-up of events that combine traditional Armenian elements with international flair. Still, it has also made visa-free travel possible since July 1.

People living in Dubai and the other emirates can travel to Armenia without a visa for up to 90 days within any 180 days – no paperwork, no visa-on-arrival. And this is drawing huge crowds from the UAE.

Planning a trip to Armenia? Here are five notable events and activities that highlight Armenia as an ideal summer choice:

RestoFest 2025 – A Culinary Showcase (July 19–20, Yerevan)

Yerevan’s city centre will transform into an expansive open-air dining experience for RestoFest 2025. Over 100 restaurant concepts will be featured, offering a diverse range of dishes from traditional Armenian fare to modern European cuisine. Visitors can sample street food, signature creations, and tasting menus from leading chefs. The festival operates a cashless system, with tasting available through prepaid coupon packages. Live music will accompany the culinary offerings.

Vardavar – The Water Festival (July 27, Nationwide)

Experience one of Armenia’s most anticipated and joyous traditions: Vardavar. On this day, people across the country engage in a widespread water-splashing celebration in streets, parks, and courtyards. Originating from pre-Christian rites dedicated to a goddess of love and water, it remains a cherished national tradition, celebrated by locals and tourists alike as a day of communal joy and celebration.

“Carmen” Opera by G. Bizet (July 28, Armenian National Opera and Ballet Theatre)

For an evening of cultural enrichment, Georges Bizet’s acclaimed opera “Carmen” will be performed at the Armenian National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Yerevan. Directed by Armen Meliksetyan and conducted by Karen Durgaryan, this production offers a compelling rendition of the classic narrative of passion and destiny, featuring designs by Davit Minasyan.

Jennifer Lopez – Up All Night: Live in 2025 (August 3, Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium, Yerevan)

Global music icon Jennifer Lopez is scheduled to perform her “Up All Night: Live 2025” tour in Yerevan, marking her inaugural concert in Armenia. Held at the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium, this event promises a high-energy performance showcasing Lopez’s signature hits and dynamic stage presence, anticipated as a significant cultural occasion for the city.

Golden Apricot International Film Festival (July 13-20, Yerevan)

While not part of the initial top five events listed, the Golden Apricot International Film Festival is a notable annual event that brings a selection of global cinema to Yerevan. Film enthusiasts can explore a diverse range of international films and artistic expressions, adding another dimension to Yerevan’s cultural landscape during the summer.

In addition to these events, Armenia offers a compelling mix of historical sites, diverse landscapes, authentic rural experiences, and vibrant urban centres.

Direct flights are available from major UAE cities, including Dubai (Fly Dubai), Sharjah (Air Arabia), and Abu Dhabi (Wizz Air), as well as from Doha (Qatar Airways), Kuwait City (Jazeera Airlines), and Beirut (Middle East Airlines), making Armenia an accessible destination for summer travel. Tickets are priced at Dh1,060 on flydubai for travel from July 20 to 26.
