Kuwait: Two-thirds of MPs have lost in the first parliamentary election on Saturday, led by the new emir (ruler) Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah in Kuwait. Opposition has been in advantage.
Amir Sheikh Nawaf accepts Prime Minister Sabah’s resignation
Sheikh Nawaf took power in September after the demise of longtime emir (ruler) of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Saba. Amir Sheikh Nawaf has accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Sabah Al Khalid Al Sabah. Amir will now appoint the Prime Minister, who will form the new cabinet. The first sitting of the new parliament can be held on 15 December.
Sabah’s political career began in 1978
Saba al-Khalid al-Sabah’s political career began in 1978 with joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he held several key positions in the United Nations, including the representative of the Permanent Mission to Kuwait (1983–1989).

None of the 29 women candidates could win the election, 31 new MPs were elected.
According to the results released on the government media on Sunday, 31 new MPs have been elected in the 50-member house. None of the 29 women candidates won. The opposition favors electoral reform and amnesty for dissidents. Many dissidents are also in exile.
