UAE issues new decree to regulate traffic

The UAE issues a new law regulating traffic, allowing driving licenses for those aged 17 years and over.

The UAE government announced United on the issuance of a federal decree-law New initiative aims to enhance traffic regulation in the country, and develop vehicle systems to keep pace with technological transformations.

The law includes allowing anyone who is 17 years old to obtain a driver’s license, in addition to several amendments in line with the expansion of the use of self-driving vehicles and electric cars, and regulating the obligations of users of personal transportation.

The UAE government media office posted on its official account on the platform: “X” The most important provisions of the new decree are as follows:

  • Modify vehicle classification to keep pace with the expanding use of self-driving vehicles, electric cars, and personal transportation.
  • Determining the conditions and procedures for inspecting, registering, licensing and renewing self-driving vehicles and the mechanisms for testing modern vehicle technologies by a decision of the Council of Ministers.
  • Determining the obligations of users of personal transportation, by a decision of the Council of Ministers.

UAE.. Allowing those who have reached 17 years of age to obtain a driving license.

  • Pedestrians are not allowed to cross roads with a speed limit exceeding 80 km/h. Pedestrians bear any civil or criminal liability for this.
  • Do not drive a vehicle that makes a lot of noise and do not use the alarm device inside cities except to prevent danger or accidents.
  • It is not permissible to transport vehicles, dangerous materials or unusual shipments except with a permit from the competent authority.
  • Deterrent penalties, especially if this causes the death of a person in a number of cases, such as driving under the influence of alcohol or psychotropic substances, fleeing the scene of an accident, crossing in places other than those designated for it, or driving a vehicle in a valley during floods.
