Weather warns of heavy rains in coming days; Saudi authorities to be careful

RIYADH: Civil Defense Directorate has warned that rain is likely to continue in various areas of Saudi Arabia until Saturday. Chance of rain is predicted from Tuesday (today) to Saturday.

Based on the weather report, the authorities have issued a warning. Civil Defense warned not to go to waterlogged areas and not to swim in waterlogged areas. In addition to the capital city of Riyadh, Dariyah, Afif, Dawadmi, Alquwayya, Majma, Tadiq, Marath, Algat, Zulfi, Shakhra, Rumah, Huraymala, Durma, Musahamiyya, Alkharj, Wadi Dawasir, Sulail, Afalaj, Hota, Hariq, Jizan, Asir and Albaha. , Madinah, Hail, Qasim, Najran, Tabuk and Eastern Province are likely to experience rain.

At the same time, the rains and floods that started on Saturday in Saudi Arabia have not subsided even on Monday. It is raining heavily in the country’s capital, Riyadh, in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina, and in the southern province of Asir. Due to heavy rains and flash floods, several dams in the country were opened. People were rescued from the swept away vehicles.

There is a threat of flooding in the southern region. Albaha province in the region has suffered the worst damage. Here in Baljurashi, five people were rescued by the Civil Defense from a vehicle that was swept away in the current. The vehicle in which five people were traveling sank in the current due to heavy rain.

The Directorate of Civil Defense informed that the rescue team of Baljurashi immediately reached the spot and rescued all the five people trapped inside the vehicle. It is reported that a vehicle was swept away by heavy floods in the area and power poles were downed. A video clip of the car being swept away by rushing water has gone viral on social media. As a precaution, the road passes in Al Baha, Hasna, Khalwa and Al Abna’ areas have been closed due to the rain.

15 dams in Al Baha province were opened as they began to overflow. Heavy rains occurred in some parts of Jizan region. Two youths rescued a drowned family in Wadi Lajab, a tourist destination in the southern province. A family of 10, including a father and son, was trapped in the flood.

Local residents Hasan Jabir Alsalami and Abdullah Yahya Alsalami were the rescuers. They saved this family from drowning in the flood. With the help of local residents, the youth took the family to a safe place. Later, the Civil Defense team arrived and rescued the family without any casualties and recovered their vehicle.
