Saudi Arabia looking to raise $2.3 billion (Dh8.45 billion) from a donor conference to be held on Tuesday to support war-shattered Yemen as it faces a Covid-19 pandemic in the sixth year of the kingdom’s military intervention.
The video conference, co-hosted by Riyadh with the United Nations, comes as groups providing aid warn that the uncontrolled spread of virus could cause havoc after years of war during acute shortage of funding.
“To cover emergency requirements in Yemen, a total of $2.3 billion is being sought to support multiple humanitarian sectors, including food, medical, and shelter assistance,” as per the statement of Saudi government.
